You’ve Gone As Far As You Can On Your Own
There came a moment in my leadership where I realized—I had gone as far as I could go by myself.
Let’s get real for a minute…
There came a point in my leadership where I had to admit:
I’d gone as far as I could go on my own.
My gift got me here… but it couldn’t take me further.
Sound familiar?
Scripture reminds us in Proverbs 11:14,
“Where there is no counsel, the people fall;
But in the multitude of counselors there is safety.”
I’ve got great friends. Solid mentors. A supportive family.
But there are moments when what I need isn’t just encouragement—it’s strategic, Spirit-filled coaching.
Hey! Before we go any further… I am going to be speaking Thursday, May 22 for Samaritan’s Purse / Billy Graham Association in Calgary, Alberta and I will be heading that way on Wednesday.
If you are in the Calgary area (or en route) and are interested, I would love to come do a Team Night for your volunteers or a Revival Night for your church on Wednesday, May 21! REPLY to this email if you’re interested!
Ok… let’s jump back in!
I hit a ceiling. So I called an experienced pastor and said:
“Would you coach me?”
Not mentor me.
Not text me once in a while.
Coach. Me.
See, mentorship is passive. Coaching is intentional.
Mentors inspire. Coaches push.
Mentors tell stories. Coaches call plays.
Having Pastor Tom Lane in my corner didn’t just help me—it reshaped me. He saw blind spots. He asked hard questions. He called out things I didn’t know were in me.
And here’s a truth some of us don’t want to hear—especially in Canada:
We’re cheap.
We try to scrape together our growth with free resources, borrowed sermons, and wishful thinking.
But Jesus said in Luke 6:40,
“The student is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher.”
You can’t become what you’ve never been taught.
And you can’t lead others where you’ve never been led.
If you’re stuck… plateaued… or carrying more weight than you know how to handle…
You need more than a coffee with a friend.
You need a coach. Someone who can help you build systems, break ceilings, and steward what’s next.
And now? I have two coaches.
Different strengths. Different perspectives.
Both have been game-changers.
So let me ask:
Who’s coaching you?
Who’s helping you see what you can’t see?
Who’s equipping you for the season ahead?
Proverbs 27:17 says,
“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”
I’d be honoured to be that person in your life.
To coach, challenge, and champion you.
