The In-Between

Why the days after Christmas matter—and how hope is leading us into 2026

Living in the In-Between

There’s a strange, beautiful stretch of time every year—the days between Christmas and New Year’s. Schedules disappear. Alarms are ignored. Meals blur together. You find yourself asking questions like, What day is it? What time is it? The calendar loses its grip, and life settles into a soft, sacred haze.

It’s a wonderful in-between.

This space isn’t lazy—it’s liminal. It’s the pause between celebration and commission, between what was and what will be. The gifts are unwrapped, the lights are still glowing, but the future hasn’t quite arrived yet. And in that stillness, something important happens: we breathe again.

Scripture is full of in-between moments. Israel stood between Egypt and the Promised Land. The disciples lived between resurrection and Pentecost. Even Jesus spent thirty hidden years between birth and public ministry. God often does His deepest work in the spaces that feel undefined.

Solomon reminds us, “For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven” (Ecclesiastes 3:1, NLT). The in-between is a season too—and it matters.

But here’s what I sense as we move forward: the haze is lifting.

As we look toward 2026, I want you to know this deep in your bones—I believe you’re going to have a great year. Not because it will be easy, but because it will be intentional. This is your year to learn, to grow, and to level up. Your church, your ministry, your business—each is stepping into new territory because you are choosing to move with clarity instead of confusion.

The fog doesn’t lift by accident. It lifts when faith replaces fear and obedience replaces hesitation. Scripture says, “If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good things of the land” (Isaiah 1:19, NLT). Willingness opens the door. Obedience walks you through it.

Hope isn’t passive. Hope acts. Hope gets up and takes the next step even when the full picture isn’t clear. “We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation” (Romans 5:3–4, NLT).

That’s how hope grows—one faithful step at a time.

You don’t need to have the whole year figured out. You just need the courage to follow Jesus today. Proverbs tells us, “The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives” (Psalm 37:23, NLT). Step by step. Day by day. Together.

So enjoy the in-between—but don’t live there.

The haze is over. Clarity is coming. Hope is here.

This is going to be a great year.
