The Battle
A Call to Leaders to Unleash the Power of Prayer
Leaders, you’re not called to live comfortably; you’re called to lead courageously. The stakes are high. The battlefield is real, and the kingdom impact of your leadership cannot be overstated. In a world that pulls you in every direction, God is calling you to rise, take your position, and wield the greatest weapon at your disposal: prayer.
Let’s get real—leadership in the kingdom is not for the faint of heart. It’s a front-line position in a spiritual war. But the beauty is, this fight isn’t fought with human strength; it’s fought with divine power. And prayer isn’t some afterthought; it’s the oxygen of your leadership and the battlefield where victories are won.
Look at the story of Moses in Exodus 17. The Amalekites were bearing down on Israel, and while Joshua fought in the valley, Moses took his place on the hill. With the staff of God lifted high, the tide of the battle turned in Israel’s favor. But when Moses’ arms grew heavy and the staff lowered, the enemy gained ground. This moment was about more than just a physical fight—it was a picture of spiritual leadership.
Four truths about leadership and spiritual warfare leap off the pages of this story:
Leadership is a team effort.
Moses couldn’t keep his arms raised alone. Aaron and Hur stood beside him, holding up his arms when he grew weary. Leaders, you weren’t meant to carry the weight of this battle by yourself. Surround yourself with people who will stand with you, pray for you, and lift your arms when you’re exhausted. Your victory isn’t yours alone—it’s tied to the team God has placed around you.The real battle is fought on the hill.
While the action may seem to be in the valley, the breakthrough happens on the hilltop. Leaders, your greatest impact comes not from the boardroom, the platform, or the strategy meeting—it comes from the place of prayer. The spiritual battles you face aren’t won by charisma or talent but by intercession and submission to God.Raise the rod.
The staff in Moses’ hand represented God’s authority and power. As leaders, we are called to continually lift high the name of Jesus, acknowledging that the authority for every battle belongs to Him. It’s not your wisdom or strength that secures victory; it’s the power of God working through your surrender.Worship secures the victory.
After the battle, Moses built an altar and named it “The Lord is my Banner.” Leaders, don’t move past moments of breakthrough without pausing to worship. Your wins aren’t about you—they’re about God’s glory. Lift His name high, both in private and in front of those you lead.
Here’s the hard truth: the enemy doesn’t take a day off. He’s relentless in trying to convince you that prayer is a waste of time, that your leadership efforts are futile, and that you’re better off striving in your own strength. But you, leader, are called to be vigilant, to step into the authority given to you in Christ, and to stand firm in prayer.
Paul’s words in Ephesians 6 are a rallying cry: “Put on the full armor of God.” The sword of the Spirit—the Word of God—and prayer are your offensive weapons. This isn’t just survival; this is advancing the kingdom, taking ground for the glory of God, and declaring that darkness has no place where the light of Christ reigns.
Make no mistake, leading in God’s kingdom is a fight. It requires discipline, a willingness to sacrifice, and a posture of humility before God. Fasting and prayer are not just optional; they are critical tools for sharpening your spiritual sensitivity and keeping your heart aligned with God’s will.
Here’s the good news: you’re not fighting for victory; you’re fighting from victory. Christ has already won. He has given you authority to trample on the enemy’s schemes (Luke 10:19). Your job is to stand firm, raise the banner of Christ, and lead others into that victory.
Leaders, let’s reject the comfort of complacency and press into the calling of courageous prayer. Let’s build teams of warriors who will fight alongside us. Let’s create a culture where prayer is not a program but the lifeblood of our leadership. And let’s believe for breakthroughs that go beyond what we can ask or imagine.
The battle is real. But so is our God. He is greater, and in Him, we are more than conquerors. So lift your eyes, lift your hands, and lift your prayers. Lead with boldness, fight with faith, and live like the victory is already yours. Because in Christ—it is.
