5 moves to reset your leadership and step boldly into your calling.

What To Do When You’re Stuck

You feel stuck. Things aren’t moving the way you thought they would. The vision is clear in your heart, but the forward motion feels like it’s stalled. You’ve prayed. You’ve strategized. You’ve done all the things you know to do… but you’re still spinning your wheels.

What do you do when you’re stuck?

1. Revisit the Vision

Sometimes the problem isn’t the vision—it’s the communication of it. Have you shared it clearly? Do the people around you know it, own it, and run with it? Proverbs 29:18 reminds us, “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” Ask someone you trust: Have I communicated the direction well? If not, get back to the basics. Cast it again. Clarify. Simplify.

2. Sow Into the Vision

You reap what you sow (Galatians 6:7). Is the vision resourced properly? Have you actually funded it? Do you have the right people in place to move it forward? Sometimes “stuck” isn’t a spiritual problem—it’s a resource problem. If you’ve starved the vision, it won’t grow.

3. Lead From Overflow

Psalm 133 paints the picture of oil flowing down Aaron’s head, to his beard, and down to his feet. Leadership flows the same way. If you aren’t genuinely behind the vision—if you’re only half-in—your people will sense it. And if you’re pretending, you’ll never move forward. Stop faking it. Get before God until the fire burns in you again.

4. Simplify Ruthlessly

When momentum is gone, it’s often because you’re carrying too much. What’s working? What’s not? Just because you’ve always done it that way doesn’t mean you should keep doing it. Some programs may be distractions or worse—sources of perpetual discouragement. Don’t be afraid to cancel what isn’t working.

5. Pastor Through Change

“But what if people get mad?” Pastor them. Sit down. Talk about the “why.” Align them with the vision. Clarity is kindness. Sometimes leaders keep ministries alive to keep people happy—only to kill the church in the process.

Ask yourself two hard questions:

  • Am I holding them hostage by letting them do what they want, even though it hurts the church?

  • Are they holding me hostage because they give, serve, or hold influence?

Neither is healthy.

6. Step Back Into Your Calling

At the end of the day, God didn’t call a board, a program, or a donor to lead the church—He called you. You’ll answer for how you led, not how you avoided conflict. Step back into your role and lead with conviction.

Have you ever felt stuck? The vision is alive in your heart, but the wheels aren’t turning. Momentum is gone. Frustration sets in.
