No Shortcuts, Just Process

Why the Long Way Is the Only Way That Works

There are no shortcuts to success, only shortcuts to failure.

Sure, you can get a mentor, take a course, or use someone else’s framework — but those aren’t shortcuts. They’re part of the process. Real growth? It happens in the long obedience, the slow formation, and the unseen faithfulness.

🚧 The Myth of the Fast Track

We live in a culture that worships “overnight success.” But here’s the truth: there’s no such thing. There’s only what happens before people start paying attention.

• David was anointed as king — and then went back to tending sheep (1 Samuel 16).

• Jesus waited 30 years before launching His public ministry (Luke 3:23).

• Paul spent years in the wilderness being formed before leading the early church (Galatians 1:17–18).

God seems to care far more about preparation than platform. And yet we often want to skip the very parts of the journey that shape us.

🔥 Case Study: Saul vs. David

Saul looked the part — tall, impressive, fast-tracked to the throne (1 Samuel 9:2). But he didn’t last. Why? Because his character couldn’t carry his calling.

David, on the other hand, was formed in obscurity. His leadership wasn’t built in the palace — it was built in caves, wildernesses, and battlefields. When his moment came, he was ready, not just available.

Shortcuts don’t form leaders. Pressure does. Process does. Time does.

📚 Mentors Aren’t Shortcuts — They’re Guides

A mentor won’t magically level you up. But they will show you what the mountain looks like — and how to climb it. Think of Elijah and Elisha, Paul and Timothy, Naomi and Ruth. These relationships weren’t about skipping the process — they were about staying in it together.

When you find a guide, it’s not so you can go faster. It’s so you can go further.

“The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty.” — Proverbs 21:5

🛠️ What This Means for You as a Leader

1. Reject the temptation to skip steps. God doesn’t waste seasons.

2. Invest in process, not just outcomes. Discipleship, formation, and spiritual maturity take time.

3. Bring others with you. Don’t offer people shortcuts — offer them the path.
