THE LEADERSHIP ADVANTAGE / WEEK TWO
DEVELOP
INSTEAD OF
DO MORE.
YOUR IMPACT GROWS WHEN MORE PEOPLE
CAN DO WHAT YOU DO.
|
|
There is a moment in every leader’s journey when you realize that doing more is not the answer.
You can work longer.
Push harder.
Take on more responsibility.
Be more involved.
Solve more problems.
But eventually, you hit a ceiling.
|
REAL, SUSTAINABLE IMPACT DOESN’T COME FROM A LEADER WHO DOES MORE.
IT COMES FROM A LEADER WHO DEVELOPS MORE.
|
|
Jesus could have done everything Himself.
He had the platform.
The people followed Him.
The results were undeniable.
But instead of building a bigger personal platform, He built people.
He called ordinary people, invested in them, and sent them out.
That’s the leadership move.
|
|
SCRIPTURE
“He appointed some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ.”
EPHESIANS 4:11–12 NLT
|
|
Notice the assignment.
|
|
Leaders aren’t called to personally perform all the ministry.
Leaders equip God’s people to do the ministry.
That means one of the clearest signs that your leadership is growing isn’t that you’re doing more.
It’s that more is happening without you.
|
CHANGE THE SCOREBOARD
Stop asking:
“How much ministry did I do?”
Start asking:
“How much ministry happened that I didn’t have to do?”
|
|
That’s multiplication.
The goal isn’t to make yourself unnecessary.
The goal is to stop making yourself necessary for everything.
And that requires a different kind of leadership.
|
|
THE DEVELOPMENT SHIFT
FROM HELPERS
TO LEADERS.
|
HELPERS
Complete tasks.
“Can you do this for me?”
|
LEADERS
Carry responsibility.
“Can you own this?”
|
|
But there’s a catch.
|
|
You didn’t really delegate if you gave someone the responsibility but kept every meaningful decision.
That’s not delegation.
That’s outsourcing.
|
HEALTHY DELEGATION
RESPONSIBILITY
+
AUTHORITY
If you want people to carry more, you eventually have to trust them with more.
|
|
THE QUESTION THIS WEEK
What are you still carrying that someone else could eventually own?
|
TRY THIS
Write down one responsibility you currently own.
Then write one name beside it.
Someone who could eventually carry it if you intentionally developed them.
Don’t delegate it tomorrow.
Start developing them today.
|
|
Your leadership capacity doesn’t only grow when you become capable of carrying more.
It grows when you become capable of giving more away.
|
DON’T JUST
DO MORE.
DEVELOP MORE.

The goal isn’t to become the person who can do everything.
The goal is to become the leader who develops people who can.
